Greenbank Folk Club Session
First and Third Tuesdays of the Month
Lucy & Hazel - The Greenbank Session
The Greenbank Session is the beating heart of our folk club — a twice-monthly open gathering where musicians, singers and listeners come together to share tunes, sing songs and enjoy the simple pleasure of making music in community. Rooted in the long tradition of informal folk sessions, ours is a welcoming, low-pressure space where people can join in however they feel comfortable: playing, singing, humming along, tapping their feet, or simply sitting back and soaking up the atmosphere.
Our sessions are proudly open-tradition, meaning there’s no set repertoire and nothing you need to prepare or learn in advance. Whether you know three chords, thirty tunes, or none at all, you’re welcome to join. People bring jigs, reels, polkas, original songs, old ballads, obscure gems, harmonies and fresh ideas — and the music grows organically from whoever is in the room that night. The focus is on shared creativity rather than performance, and on building a space that feels safe, relaxed, fun and genuinely communal.
Since emerging from the pandemic in 2021 (formerly, The Rising Sun Session), the Greenbank Session has become a home for a wonderfully diverse mix of musicians and listeners. We’re proud that so many young, queer, neurodivergent and disabled members of the folk community have found this a place where they can participate freely, explore their musicianship and feel seen and supported. This sense of belonging and accessibility informs everything we do as a club.
Whether you’re new to folk, a seasoned session player, or someone who’s simply curious about the music, the Greenbank Session offers an open door and a seat at the table. Come share a tune, learn something new, meet fellow folkies, or just enjoy being part of a living folk tradition.
Sessions take place on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at The Greenbank Pub, 57 Belle Vue Rd, Easton, Bristol BS5 6DP. If you have any questions, please reach out via our Contact page.
